Clinton, Obama, Insurance

Full disclosure: Paul Krugman, the author of this article, is a staunch liberal, and by no means unbiased. I say this because his claims of Clinton’s progressive policies, while progressive, are fiscally messy. Her proposal is estimated to cost between $100 to $150 billion extra in government spending a year.

While both plans will cost someone money, Clinton’s plan will be paid directly through increased tax base (except for those whom already have employers pay for insurance, which instead are paid by the employers who receive tax benefits as a result). In contrast, Obama’s plan would require employers to extend healthcare to employees. This is much less burdensome to the average taxpayer.

Krugman’s focus seems to be the hype of covering every person. This is nothing but hype because most people don’t have insurance not because they don’t want it but because they can’t afford it.

The reason this is important is because the nature of universal healthcare, if the government is willing to insure everyone, they’re not necessarily worried about the costs of acheiving this goal. Unfortunately, this means that tax payers will be paying more for healthcare that, unfortunately, extend less benefits to Americans, due to the lack of free market forces at work.

While Obama’s plan will not cover everyone, it will cover every child. In addition, because of the purchasing power of companies insuring all of their employees, and their interest in getting the most for the least, working Americans will on average, receive better coverage for less (not to mention the tax relief your receive when your employer pays for your insurance).

If you want to read more about Obamacare versus Hillarycare before making your decision, definitely read Obamacare, Better than it looks.. Another article, although less interesting:Obama vs. Hillary: Universality.

I will more throrougly cover this topic in an upcoming article.

Ron Paul’s positions

Take a quick gander at Ron Paul’s voting record. If you were to choose a candidate based purely on fiscal responsibility Ron Paul is your candidate. A reversion to a truly small federal government would be an amazing sight to see, but I think it is a pipe dream, considering the size of our modern bureaucracy.

After playing around for a full day, I must say, Twitter really excites the mind. It allows me to tend to my tasks, and focus less on distractions. Twitter, in a single day distilled my communication habits. I now share things on my own time, rather than constantly needing to respond to others’ IM chimes. Its a great feeling.

I’ve learned a bit more about the service:

  • While Twitter is primarily used for public communication, I can send a private message that cannot be read by others if I begin my post with “D + username”.
  • Replies are my favorite part of the Twitter system. By typing “@username”, you can reply specifically to another user’s tweet.
  • Because Twitter is essentially a light blogging system, each user entry creates an RSS post, which can be subscribed to. Twitter search engines (such as Terraminds) exist where you can search for specific terms and create user-centric feeds. While replies from people on my friends list (or followers list as Twitter calls it) automatically show up for me, I cannot see other replies to my tweets if they are not my friend. What this means is that I can create a feed made solely of replies to my tweets, and view what others whom I’m not following say. This is killer!
  • My absolute favorite thing about Twitter is that I can post from anywhere. This includes my cell phone, my computer, this site, AIM, email, etc.

By Ryan,

I began using Twitter today.

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

If you are severely overweight, go ahead and track where you are at with the scale at first. You are going to drop weight at a much faster rate than someone who is just trying to change their body composition and not using the scale. Keep in mind that eventually you should throw the scale out the window as well. I only recommend the scale for beginners, and on occasion, to all others.

Keeping track of your personal progress at the gym can often be a frustrating experience. This does not have to be the case. In my new lifting/workout regime, started five weeks ago, I have tracked my progress through the means discussed here. In addition to the ideas mentioned in the article; I suggest keeping a log of your week to week numbers on weights lifted for a given exercise. This is particularly important for those trying to gain muscle because you need a steady increase in weight over time. You do not want to find yourself in a rut lifting the same amounts week in and week out. I am currently on my fourth straight week of five day workouts and I am down 8 pounds while increasing my muscle and strength. Tracking just how much progress is being made makes it that much more satisfying when you can see the results in terms of numbers.

Don’t apply to much of those Medicated substances to your body.

She’d used large amounts of popular OTC pain-relieving ointments like Icy Hot and Ben-Gay on her sore muscles. The key ingredient in such products is methyl salicylate, which built up in Newman’s body, may have interacted with other aspirin-based meds she was using, and caused her to go into cardiac arrest.

This is of great concern to people like myself who use products like bengay or flexall for joint pain and sore muscles. Moderation is the key, maybe even minimal use. It seems that certain substances, especially methyl are dangerous. These chemicals can be hazardous and even fatal to you if overused or mixed with the wrong drug.

India’s Tata Motors today unveiled the Nano, its much-anticipated $2,500 car, an ultracheap price tag that brings car ownership into the reach of tens of millions of people

Mobility is wonderful thing and a luxury we take for granted in the United States. The Nano will provide mobility to a huge segment of the international population. Could the Nano increase the already out of control demands for gasoline? If global demands for gas rise significantly, will we one day be looking at paying 5 dollar per gallon at the pumps?

A police car with siren flashing.
Seeing those flashing lights in your rearview mirror may be the worst thing about driving.

One of the absolute worst feelings in the world is driving along and seeing those flashing lights come on behind you and/or hearing the roaring sirens of that patrol car pulling you over. There are a number of actions you can take in order to increase your chances of avoiding the dreaded traffic stop and/or ticket. In order to find out the best way to approach this precarious situation, I contacted a number of my friends, who will remain anonymous, who are police officers or are in training to become police officers.

The best bet is always to drive in a way that will avoid being pulled over in the first place. However life circumstances can often preclude perfectly legal driving choices. Not many drivers can say they have never broken a traffic violation and thus avoiding the traffic stop altogether may prove to be a formidable task. With that in mind, here are some suggestions that will help get you through your next traffic stop, ticket-free. Read more

By Dan,

Some 60% of Americans say they have driven while drowsy, and 37% admit to nodding off at the wheel, according to the National Sleep Foundation. Lack of sleep is a factor in one-fifth of motor-vehicle accidents and near accidents, studies conducted for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found. It’s also to blame in one-third of fatal truck accidents — equivalent to alcohol and drugs combined.

This article was a real eye opener, pun intended. Sadly, I have driven drowsy many times. Obviously, the better part of me knows that that is wrong, dangerous, and completely irresponsible. (I have also been to the point where I had to pull over, which I did, and took a 30 minute nap). With that said, it looks like there is yet another thing that I can add to my ever growing New Year’s resolution list. Unfortunately, driving while drowsy may be very difficult to solve without changing our suburban concept of travel: the automobile. We drive drowsy because, how else will we get home. If there were more, reasonable and inconvenient solutions, dangerous driving habits like this one could be reduced significantly.

Look 40 when you’re 90 years old with HGH!

HGH has been used since the 1950s to help children with growth problems, but it stayed under the radar for other uses until 1990, when Dr. Daniel Rudman reported in the New England Journal of Medicine that men taking a six-month course of HGH reduced their body fat by 14.4 percent while increasing lean muscle mass by 8.8 percent.

Currently HGH is illegal without a legitimate prescription from a doctor. If after extensive testing the FDA revises its stance on this product and allows it for mainstream use, I would consider it as an option when my age begins to hinder me. So far it seems to be completely healthy and beneficial when used correctly. I’ll continue watching the legal and medical debate over this product. It has been shown to improve vision and help your muscle mass; my bifocal glasses and puny physique could use the upgrade.
